On Sunday, October 1st, 2023, Gudie Leisure Farm welcomed the essence of Acholi culture to its grounds in a spectacular event known as the Acholi Region Spotlight. Despite an initial downpour, the inclement weather did nothing to dampen the spirits of this captivating celebration. It was a traditional cultural immersion combined with a display of extraordinary talents.

A Showcase of Youthful Energy:

The youth from Acholi brought an electrifying energy, enthusiasm, and vitality to the event. They graced the stage with a plethora of captivating performances, including mesmerizing cultural dances like Larakaraka, Dingi Dingi, and the awe-inspiring Acholi pot dance, where talented young women danced gracefully while balancing stacks of pots atop their heads.

The menu featured Millet bread, Boo, Malakwang, luscious groundnut paste, and a tantalizing variety of well-prepared meats. It was a treat for the senses and an immersion into the heart of Acholi gastronomy.

Cultural Village Tour:

One of the highlights of the day was a tour of a cultural village, providing guests with a unique insight into how the Acholi people used to live. The village showcased various aspects of Acholi culture, including shrines, kings, traditional medicines, and remarkable art and crafts. This journey through time and tradition allowed guests to appreciate the rich heritage of the Acholi people.

Empowering Youth Through Knowledge:

The Acholi Region Spotlight also served as a platform for the graduation of Division YAV Trainers. An impressive 1200 youth successfully completed the program, celebrating their newfound skills and abilities. Mr. Sam Bagenda, better known as Dr. Bbosa, presided over the graduation ceremony and commended Gudie Leisure Farm for its remarkable work in empowering youth with skills that lead to dignified and fulfilling work. He shared inspirational words, urging the graduating youth to trust in the “5Ps” – Prayer, Persistence, Positivity, Patience, and Passion. These principles, he emphasized, would empower them to make Uganda a better place.
