Mastercard Foundation Exco visit Ziad a Gudie Leisure Farm Youth Agripreneur Champion

On the vibrant day of October 24th, 2023, Gudie Leisure Farm had the distinct honor of hosting esteemed members of the Mastercard Foundation’s Executive Committee. Their visit was particularly focused on one of our shining stars, Ziad, a commendable Youth Agripreneur Champion (YAC) and one of our YAV trainees.

Ziad, a trainee under Gudie Leisure Farm’s Youth Agripreneur Vendor (YAV) program, welcomed the committee into his domain—a restaurant that specializes in fish and chicken products. He graciously shared insights into his daily operations, providing an immersive experience into his entrepreneurial journey and the impact it has had on the community.

Accompanied by our Managing Director and Founder, Dr. Gudula Naiga Basaza, the Mastercard Foundation team was treated to a tour showcasing our diverse cottage industries. Dr. Gudula expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Foundation for the invaluable opportunity to uplift individuals like Ziad, underscoring their exceptional role in shaping and spotlighting such impactful stories.

Reflecting on our journey with the Foundation, Dr. Gudula highlighted the remarkable strides achieved in collaboration with the Mastercard Foundation. “We’ve expanded our footprint significantly, reaching 24 districts, 650 parishes, and nurturing youths like Ziad, who have become mentors inspiring others around them,” she passionately stated.

Throughout this enriching partnership, Gudie Leisure Farm has gathered invaluable lessons. Dr. Gudula emphasized the gradual nature of transformation, acknowledging the pivotal role of parents in influencing the youth’s actions. She also underscored the importance of ecosystem mapping and the strategic collaboration with various partners to fill implementation gaps.

Looking ahead, our aspirations include establishing regional incubation centers, allowing for localized learning and strengthening youth saving groups to foster sustainable growth.

The Mastercard Foundation team lauded Gudie Leisure Farm for its responsive approach to youth needs, acknowledging the consistent growth and innovation witnessed in every quarter. Tade Aina, Chief Impact and Research Officer, emphasized the youth’s resilience, creating job opportunities, and echoed the sentiment of ‘Yes We Can’ in transforming lives.

Daniel Hailu, Executive Director of Pan-African Programs, shared the Foundation’s commitment to meeting young people where they are, highlighting the priority given to empowering young women.

Gudie Leisure Farm continues its unwavering commitment to nurturing youth empowerment, supported by transformative partnerships like the Mastercard Foundation, and remains dedicated to shaping brighter futures for the youth of Uganda.
